Naval Institute Press
Despite advancing technology and expanding “domains” of warfare, combat remains a deeply interactive, human endeavor. It was especially true during World War II in the Pacific. New from the Naval Institute Press, Delivering Destruction, by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Christopher Hemler, is the first detailed study of American triphibious (land, sea, and air) firepower coordination in the Pacific War. Underlining the importance of wartime adaptation, battlefield coordination, and the primacy of the human element in naval combat, Hemler reveals the untold story of American fire control and coordination teams in the Central Pacific. Through adaptation and innovation, American troops and officers worked out practical solutions in the field, learning to effectively apply and integrate air and naval support during contested amphibious assaults.
New Member-Only Benefits
In February, we launched a USNI News member-only newsletter—“Sea Scroll”—arriving in your email every Thursday. Unlike all other USNI News reportage, Sea Scroll is added analysis, insights, and “reporter’s notebook” tidbits that might never make it into a formal news story, but available only to our members. Coming later this year, we plan to bring you even more enhanced ways to enjoy Proceedings and Naval History with online, interactive PDFs. Non-members will continue to be able to read five free online articles each month in HTML format, but for those who want to enjoy the content digitally in the beautiful print magazine formats, they will need to be members or subscribers. More great reasons to be members of the Naval Institute!
