Spring Fundraising Appeal
You will soon receive the Naval Institute Foundation’s spring appeal—if it hasn’t arrived already. I hope you will consider stretching to make a generous tax-deductible donation in honor of our 150th Anniversary. We try not to overwhelm our members with frequent asks throughout the year—but please know that the support and active involvement of members is vital to the Institute’s success, is greatly appreciated, and truly makes a difference. Because we are a 501(c)3 educational nonprofit, donations are a significant part of the Naval Institute’s annual budget. Without the support from members over the past century and a half, we never would have reached our sesquicentennial milestone. Your support is critical to ensuring our vital mission continues!

The Marine Officer’s Guide, 9th Edition
By Colonel Christian N. Haliday, USMC (Retired)
We are proud to have just published the ninth edition of The Marine Officer’s Guide, which continues in the tradition of its predecessors. As Colonel Robert D. Heinl Jr., one of its originators, noted, the Guide aims “to assist new officers to learn the ropes as quickly as they can, to digest for all readers the continuing changes which have beset the Defense Establishment, and to help the entire officer corps keep professionally up to date.” Organized in three parts, this latest edition addresses the Marine Corps as a military service, an institution, and, to some degree, a bureaucracy, while providing tailored guidance in leadership and the profession of arms as well as information on personal, family, and social matters. In sum, The Marine Officer’s Guide, 9th Edition, is current, vital, and applicable to today’s Corps.
