Captain Dennis Dean, U.S. Navy (Retired)–Captain Eyer’s and Mr. Polmar’s articles highlight the concerns of many observers, inside and outside the Navy, over the recent spate of commanding-officer firings. They rightly focus on the non-operational concerns that have been the cause célèbre of late. However, such concerns are by no means new and immediately bring to my mind another time, another place.
