Hail and Farewell
Just when you thought it would never end, the nation's quadrennial exercise in democracy has mercifully run its course. We at Proceedings salute the survivor, uh, victor, Senator Barack Obama, now President-elect Obama. The policy implications of his election are enormous, especially as they relate to such issues as war, peace, the financial meltdown, health care, energy, and the environment. But we would be remiss if we failed to note the giant step this nation has taken toward healing the wound of racism that has scarred it from the beginning. We join millions of Americans in wishing the new President a seamless transition and a productive tenure in office.
We send our condolences and warm wishes to Senator John McCain, a tireless campaigner whom we believe would have made a fine President. He takes a back seat to no one in terms of his service to the nation.
