Introducing the Quill and Sword Legacy Society
In April 2007, the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) launched the Quill and Sword Legacy Society, which is comprised of individuals who have a deep interest in the Institute's mission and wish to ensure its future strength by providing a legacy gift in the form of cash, bequest, trust, annuity, property, stock, or life insurance. These special donations may also provide the donor with tax or income benefits during their lifetime and/or for the donor's surviving family members.
For more than 133 years, the Naval Institute has blazed the trail for forward-thinking Americans in uniform and out. As an independent forum on national security, USNI continues to challenge complacent and conventional wisdom and to explore the power of ideas in re-defining national security strategy. Unlike other defense-related organizations, USNI remains non-partisan, non-governmental, and non-profit.
Providing a truly independent forum on national security is a noble mission—but independence requires financial support without compromise. One of the most effective ways to help the Institute sustain future programs and services is by becoming a member of the Quill and Sword Legacy Society.
Chief Executive Officer Tom Wilkerson has become a charter member. "Joining the Quill and Sword Legacy Society was a simple and ideal way for me to continue supporting the Institute's mission long after I retire. Membership does not require large personal wealth or time-consuming paperwork—just a simple phone call to our Foundation office," he said.
There are no minimum requirements for membership, which comes with a lifetime of benefits.
"Anyone who has already named USNI in their estate plans will automatically become a member of this distinguished society as soon as they inform us of their gift," Wilkerson added.
The Quill and Sword Legacy Society name invokes the Institute's crest, which depicts these two symbols of wisdom and power—characteristics that generous planned-gift donors will help USNI share for the next 133 years and beyond.
