11 JULY 93,0731Z; NAVY, MARINES AND AIR FORCE SOAR IN JOINT MISSION.
Scenario: Democracy on small island is overthrown. United Nations intervenes. Navy, Marines and Air Force are deployed to reinstate the legitimate government.
Fortunately, this is only a planning scenario. But with the American V-22 Osprey, it’s a scenario that can be conducted in record time with minimal losses by a joint services operation. You see, the V-22 is the first aircraft with the potential to meet or exceed 32 multiservice mission requirements. And as an aircraft produced domestically using unique U.S. technology, it will be in demand by friendly foreign governments, which helps strengthen our economy.
There is no other vertical-lift aircraft anywhere in the world that has the range, speed and survivability of the V-22.
Let’s keep our edge. Let’s build the V-22 - in America.

“From the Sea” articulates a shift in the Navy’s priorities from open ocean global conflict to regional contingencies in littoral waters. The AN/BQG-5 Wide Aperture Array (WAA) enhances the submarine’s posture in support of the Navy’s changing missions. The technology is mature and the system is in production, currently being installed on USS Augusta (SSN-710).
Entering Littoral Waters With Greater Confidence
By providing significantly improved performance against a diesel submarine threat in littoral waters, offering greater acoustic advantage, better targeting solutions, quicker reaction times, and superior high speed performance, AN/BQG-5 will enhance submarine survivability.

Perhaps Our Submarines Are Too Quiet.
You don’t hear much concerning the role of America’s “Silent Service” in bringing an end to the Cold War. But nearly 40 years, the submarine community provided one 0f the most powerful deterrents to aggression.
Operating independently, unseen and unheard for months at a time, American submarines were on station, unsupported, and served notice to potential adversaries. And all the while, we were developing the advanced technologies in propulsion, quieting and weaponry that make today’s submarines even more formidable.
Now there’s a new mission for our submarine force. In an era of force reductions, submarines become an
increasingly valuable force multiplier.
Strategically deployed, attack submarines can quickly respond to regional conflicts virtually anywhere in the world. They combine the element of surprise with the ability to engage enemv forces at sea as well as over land with cruise missiles. Submarines also provide the ideal platform for covert surveillance and special warfare operations.
Maintaining a viable submarine force requires the preservation of the unique infrastructure of manufacturers and suppliers that has been developed over the past 45 years.
The United States’ submarine force has long been known as the “Silent Service” but the need to preserve this vital capability must now be heard loud and clear.

His life in the KGB, his conflict with the system, and his daring escape from Moscow with his wife and young daughter - a CIA coup that convinced Soviet authorities he was dead - are all revealed in this thrilling new book.

est Range. Further development by FMC nd Martin Marietta is focused on multiPacking the Evolved Seasparrow Missile (ESSM) to Crease Mk4l loadout for ship self-defense.
, Electrothermal Chemical (ETC) Guns - FMC’s ,.r£akthrough research in electric guns has already estab- i^hed new levels of performance to make guns viable Ammons l°r ship self-defense.
^nng recent FMC accomplishments:
°ur 60 mm ETC gun has been successful in rapid-fire
testing, and will fire precision-guided munitions at airborne targets during demonstrations planned for this year at the Naval Surface Weapons Center, Dahlgren, VA.
ETC performance improvements have also been demonstrated in a Navy 5-inch gun for the Defense Nuclear Agency. Existing 5-inch naval guns upgraded with ETC technology and firing guided munitions can become effective ship selfdefense weapons.
Ultimately, ship self-defense will require a suite of weapons and sensors integrated in a single, synergistic combat system. Weapons should include both gun and missile elements, and FMC is rapidly advancing the state of technology in both areas.
