Lieutenant Kasturas commissioned through NROTC and participated in the Project Global Officer program, studying Mandarin in Beijing. After commissioning as a submarine officer and completing nuclear power training, he served on board the USS Nebraska (SSBN-739) as reactor control assistant, tactical systems officer, assistant engineer, and quality assurance officer. He currently is a planner in the office of Plans, Policy, and International Engagement at headquarters, Commander, Submarine Forces. He holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from George Washington University.
