The brain-machine interface (BMI), which may have seemed outlandish in 1982, is a good example of how science fiction can be prophetic.

The Röntgensatellit (RoSat) X-ray observatory ceased to operate in 1998, after its X-ray imager pointed straight at the sun and was destroyed. Many analysts believe this was not an accident, and that hackers intentionally destroyed the satellite.
