A graduate of the Naval Academy in the Class of 1926, Captain McCorkle was recently in command of the U.S.S. New Jersey. A destroyer skipper in World War II who saw plenty of excitement in the Pacific, Captain McCorkle was Head of the Department of Seamanship and Navigation at the Naval Academy, 1950-1951, and an Associate Editor of the Naval Institute Proceedings.
