Mr. Van Cleave served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1953 until 1957. He received a B.A. in Political Science from California State College, Long Beach, California, and attended the University of California at Los Angeles as a graduate student and teaching assistant in political science. He continued his graduate studies at Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California, where he received an M.A. in Government and International Relations. Since 1964, he has been a Political Scientist in the Strategic Studies Center, Stanford Research Institute.
