Lieutenant Colonel Michael J. Byron is an action officer in the western regional branch of the Plans Division, Plans, Policies and Operations Department, Headquarters, U. S. Marine Corps. He was graduated from the University of Miami (Florida) in 1963 with a B.A. degree in Latin American studies. Following his commissioning in 1963, Lieutenant Colonel Byron took Vietnamese language training. He served two tours as an advisor to the Vietnamese Marine Corps and one combat tour with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, USMC. After duty with the 2nd Marine Division, he was assigned to the U. S. Military Mission in Greece and attended the Armed Forces Staff College and Interamerican Defense College. He has had duty in J-3, Joint Chiefs of Staff, was executive officer of the 4th and 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, and has been involved in the Norway prepositioning program.
