With degrees of B.A., M.A., and Ph.D., from Harvard, Mr. Greene was an instructor in the Department of English, History, and Government at the U. S. Naval Academy until 1943 when he joined the Naval Reserve. He served as Educational Service Officer at Londonderry, N.I., and was assistant Education and Training Officer on the staff of Commander Naval Forces Europe. At the time of publication he was on the civil faculty at the Naval Academy.
