Commander Alpigini retired in 2018. He commanded the USS Stout (DDG-55) deploying twice to the Eastern Mediterranean and earning the Battle “E.” He is chief of staff for a Hampton Roads systems engineering and cybersecurity defense contractor and is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He and his family have a rescue Yorkshire terrier named Ollie.
