Commander Widder was commissioned at the University of Missouri NROTC unit in 1952, and retired from the Navy in 1972. From 1956 until his retirement, he was a naval public affairs specialist. His articles have appeared in national and military professional magazines, and he has written two books of nonfiction, published by Harper & Row.
