Rufus Phillips spent much of his time over a fourteen-year period in South Vietnam as an Army officer, CIA case officer, USAID counterinsurgency official, and State Department consultant. He helped monitor the 2009 Afghan elections. He also provided counterinsurgency advice to the U.S. embassy in Kabul. He was inducted into the U.S. Army OCS Hall of Fame in 2014 and appears in Ken Burns’ 2017 documentary film series, <a href=http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-vietnam-war/home/><I>The Vietnam War</i></a>.
Elliot Carlsons a longtime journalist who has worked for such newspapers as the <em>Honolulu Advertiser</em>, <em>Wall Street Journal</em>, and the <em>AARP Bulletin</em>. Carlson is the author of the Chief of Naval Operation's reading list title <em>Joe Rochefort's War: The Odyssey of the Codebreaker Who Outwitted Yamamoto at Midway</em>.</p>
Michael White has worked in film and television for more than thirty-six years. His career in special and visual effects began in 1976 at Pinewood Studios. After an extensive film career in England, in 1990 he moved to Vienna, which he uses as a base to work internationally as a documentary director and producer. Andrew S. Erickson is a professor of strategy in the Naval War College (NWC)’s China Maritime Studies Institute (CMSI) and an associate in research at Harvard’s Fairbank Center. The recipient of NWC’s inaugural Research Excellence Award, he runs the China studies website www.andrewerickson.com.
William P. Lawrence graduated from the Naval Academy in 1951 and became the first naval aviator to fly twice the speed of sound in a Navy airplane. He was a POW in Vietnam from 1967 to 1973, when he resumed his naval career. Upon retirement from the Navy in 1986, he became chair of naval leadership at the academy and later served as president of the Association of Naval Aviation. He died in December 2005.
