An infantry officer, Colonel Hillman was commissioned with the Class of 1945, U. S. Military Academy. His overseas service includes Japan, Korea, Austria, and Vietnam. He has held command positions through infantry brigade level, served on the Army staff in Washington, D.C., and been a faculty member at the U. S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He has previously been published in Infantry, Armor, and Army magazines. Colonel Hillman’s interest in Army-Marine Corps teamwork on the battlefield dates back 37 years. In 1950, while serving with the 9th Infantry in Korea, he found himself fighting alongside the 5th Marines—just as his predecessors had in France, slightly more than three decades earlier.
