Captain Miller was recalled to active duty at his request in 1946. He entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a graduate student; he graduated in June 1951. He retired in 1968 after a career that included a tour of duty as Director of Ship Design, Naval Ship Engineering Center, Washington, D.C.
