Head of the Special Research Section of the Chemistry Division at the Naval Research Laboratory, Mr. Tuve has been with the activity since 1938. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the American University, Washington, D. C., doing graduate work in physical chemistry at the University of Maryland and the Department of Agriculture. During the war he rode the JRF’s, PBY’s, CMC’s and other craft as a civilian scientist testing new materiel and devices developed for the Fleet. Technical developments by the combined efforts of the group of chemists under his leadership include the fluorescent “sea marking” rescue dye, and many applications of mechanical foam for gasoline and oil firefighting in the Navy.
