Dr. Philip Gold holds a Ph.D. in history from Georgetown University. He has spent 35 years in the national security field, first as a Marine officer, then as a defense analyst, university professor, journalist, and author. He has published five books and over 800 articles. This is adapted from his book in progress, To Guard an Era: American Purpose After Iraq.
