Major Valerín is an Army Southeast Asian foreign area officer serving as the chief for the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Timor-Leste. He received his commission as an engineer officer from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2007, earning a bachelor’s degree in foreign area studies. He also has an MA in international public policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
