Mr. Chatelain is an assistant professor of history at Lone Star College—North Harris Campus, a historian for the public history–oriented platform Emerging Civil War, and a former U.S. Navy surface warfare officer. He is the author of Treasure and Empire in the Civil War: The Panamá Route, the West and the Campaigns to Control America’s Mineral Wealth (McFarland, 2024) and Defending the Arteries of Rebellion: Confederate Naval Operations in the Mississippi River Valley 1861–1865 (Savas Beatie, 2020).
