A retired Navy commander, Dr. McMaster is a professor of joint maritime operations at the U.S. Naval War College satellite office, College of Distance Education, located at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He served 22 years as a surface warfare officer and co-edited and contributed to the 30th-anniversary edition of In Peace and War: Interpretations of American Naval History (2008).
