LCDR Dotson served for 20 years of combined active and reserve service as a U.S. Navy intelligence officer, serving assignments on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), in Japan, and in the Pentagon. He has also served as a staff member of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, and as an author and editor with the Jamestown Foundation. He is the deputy director of the Global Taiwan Institute, a think tank in Washington. D.C. focused on contemporary Taiwan issues.
