Master Chief Mineman John Babcock, U.S. Navy (Retired), served in the Navy from November 1977 to August 2000. He was operations chief on the USS Defender (MCM-2), where he was officer of the deck and mine warfare evaluator. He worked as N71 with Commander, Mine Warfare Command, Panama City, during the development of the AN/WLD-1 system.
