Thomas Modly was the Acting Secretary of the Navy from November 2019 through April 2020. Previously he was the Under Secretary of the Navy from 2017 through 2019. He is a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and he served on active duty as a helicopter pilot and an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He holds a master’s degree in Government from Georgetown University and an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.
