A graduate of the Naval Academy in 1940, Commander Seim served in South American, West Indian, and Pacific waters before World War II. He was attached to the U.S.S. Independence when she was torpedoed in the Tarawa campaign, and subsequently was gunnery officer on the staff of Commander Carrier Division 4 and 5 in Task Force 38. After Japan’s surrender he served in the Western Pacific, Philippines, China, and Japan, and is now on the Staff of Commander Second Fleet.
