Lieutenant Martin has had a dozen previous articles in the Proceedings. He attended Severn School and Bowdoin College. After enlisting in 1942 as QM3/c, he served in LCI(L)’s in the Sicilian, Salerno, and Omaha Beach invasions, was commissioned in 1944, and later, ns skipper of LCI(G) 450, took the first Allied vessel into the Sumida River. His last active duty was in the Public Information Office, Eleventh Naval District.
