A graduate of the Naval Academy in 1922, Captain Stevens served at sea in the Atlantic and Pacific throughout World War II. He was commanding officer of the U.S.S. Achernar, First Army headquarters ship, during the invasion of Normandy. Serving later as Director of Training, Fourth Naval District, and as commanding officer of the U.S.S. Huntington, at present he heads the Department of Naval Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
