Captain Pierce is currently a manufacturer’s representative in California. His extensive Navy career, which began with graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1938, included command of float plane and fighter squadrons in World War II. He received the Navy Commendation Ribbon “for outstanding heroism in action against Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands Area.” He retired from the Navy as Chief of Staff for Plans to Chief of Naval Training and Chief of Staff for Personnel at Naval Air Forces Pacific.
