Commander Lucero enlisted at 20 years old as a married father of a newborn in 1996. His family has accompanied him to duty stations on the Gulf Coast, Great Lakes, East and West Coasts, and to complete a master’s degree at Harvard University. He credits his success to his wife’s unselfish sacrifices throughout their 23 years in the Coast Guard.
