A 1947 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Bruce Keener, III, U. S. Navy, has served at sea as gunnery officer, USS Maddox (DD-731); gunnery officer, USS Evansville (PF-70); electronics officer, USS Philippine Sea (CVA-47); executive officer, USS Savage (DER-386); commissioning executive officer, USS Lynde McCormick (DDG-8); commanding officer, USS Joseph Strauss (DDG-16); commissioning commanding officer, USS Seattle (AOE-3); and Commander Destroyer Squadron 24. His shore assignments include Naval Postgraduate School, where he received a master of science in electrical engineering; head, Sonar Evaluation Section, Key West Test and Evaluation Detachment; Naval Warfare Course, Naval War College; Special Assistant to the CNO; head, National Policy Section, and head, Current Plans Branch, Strategic Plans and Policy Division, OpNav; and Commander Navy Recruiting Area Eight. He is now Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Group Two/Destroyer Development Group.
