Mr. Grieves enlisted in the U. S. Navy in April 1939 and served in the USS Falcon (ASR-2) and the USS R-10 (SS-87) before being transferred to the Thresher in August 1940. He participated in 13 war patrols, 11 of which were on board the Thresher and two on the USS Lizardfish (SS- 373). In 1945, he was discharged from the Navy as a torpedoman firs! class.
