Captain Monroe served on active duty as gunnery officer in the USS Aucilla (AO-56) and also in the Amphibious Force, U. S. Atlantic Fleet. His reserve duties have included service with Tactical Air Control Squadron 21/206 in Norfolk, Virginia.
