Thirty Days At Sea
By Admiral Christophe Prazuck, French Navy
As part of an international counter-drug coalition, the surveillance frigate Germinal,
its helicopter, marksmen, and the marine commandos' assault vessel intercepted a go-fast, seized its cargo of cocaine, and arrested its crew in the Caribbean Sea.
From counterdrug and minesweeping operations to launching Rafale fighters from the carrier Charles de Gaulle in support of the fight against ISIL, the French Navy responds to the defense needs of the French people.
For several years now, the French Navy has been facing an exceptionally high level of engagement across a broad range of missions, all with the goal of protecting the French people. In any given period, an average of 35 combat vessels and 5,000 sailors are working around the clock across the seven seas. Another 3,000 sailors are involved in the country’s maritime defenses along the coastline and in the waters around France.
