From the Naval Institute Press
Rarely is an aircraft design so inspired that it brings forth near-universal recognition and acclaim. In more than 110 years of naval aviation history, and more than 50 years of Vought Corsairs in active-duty squadrons, one Corsair model, the F4U, stands alone. In all that time, only a few naval aircraft are acknowledged as game-changers that singularly tipped the balance in air warfare. Like Vought, the Naval Institute Press is breaking new ground and has released the digital edition of this latest special edition on the F4U Corsair on our interactive digital platform.
Save The Date
The Naval Institute’s 2025 Annual Meeting will be held in our Jack C. Taylor Conference Center on 14 May, starting at 1600. Members can attend in-person or virtually. We will honor our Authors of the Year, Essay Contest Winners, and departing Board of Directors and Editorial Board members. We will discuss the State of the Institute, and a keynote speaker will address pressing issues facing the Sea Services today.
WEST Recap
Our annual WEST Conference at the end of January in San Diego enjoyed a record number of attendees, exhibitors, speakers and panelists. Huge thanks to all who participated. If you weren’t able to attend, you can watch the keynote speakers and panel discussions on YouTube. WEST 2026 will take place 10–12 February next year. Hope to see you there!
Special Offer From The Intrepid Museum For Naval Institute Members
If you are planning a trip to New York City, be sure to include a visit to the Intrepid Museum (former USS Intrepid (CV-11)) before 26 May to receive a special challenge coin. The first 250 Naval Institute members to visit the museum will receive a free commemorative coin featuring the former USS Growler (SSG-577). To pick up your coin, go to the information desk in the museum’s Hangar Bay 1 and provide proof of membership (either a membership card, or log into your member account on usni.org). Limit one coin per member. Plan your visit at intrepidmuseum.org.
Last Chance To Vote!
Don’t forget to vote for the Institute’s Board of Directors and Editorial Board. Paper ballots were included in the January Proceedings and the February Naval History (for our Naval History members). Association Voting also sent an email to all members on 6 January with a link to vote online. The deadline is the 14th of this month. Results of the election will be made public at our annual meeting on 14 May.
