As the U.S. military sends its expeditionary medical forces to augment civilian facilities responding to the COVID-19 crisis, as a nation we must recognize the sacrifices our doctors and other health professionals are making. During China’s initial response to the pandemic, more than 3,300 of the victims were healthcare workers, including the physician who died after sounding the alarm about the crisis. In Italy, that number has exceeded 4,800, and cases are on the rise.
