As much as my heart fancies the Grumman F6F Hellcat over its Mitsubishi A6M Zero opponent, each fighter possessed its own advantages. Ultimately, the superiority of pilots and tactics carried the day for the Hellcat. Therefore, I choose the Grumman F-14 Tomcat over the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 Flogger, as the Tomcat was superior in every way except for top speed. I experienced this superiority directly, through a non-hostile tangle with a Russian Flogger off Vietnam in the 1980s and a head-on intercept of an Iraqi Flogger aborted in the 1990s.
