In the past several years, Coast Guard leaders have made significant efforts to retain talent. This year the Coast Guard implemented deferment options for temporary duty orders for up to one year post-partum, removed gender-specific pronouns from evaluation reports, and delivered 100 percent colocation orders for married Coast Guard members. Leaders now activate reservists to cover parental-leave gaps. Next year, Legacy-class cutter Resolute will offer berthing for females, increasing afloat opportunities for women, and the RAND Corporation will study how the service can better recruit and retain underrepresented minorities.
