Membership
Summer is here, and as you enjoy the warmer weather, keep Proceedings with you and catch up on your reading. Proceedings is the heart of the independent forum and is one of the many benefits of membership in the Naval Institute. Membership keeps you informed and connected to an engaged community of sea service professionals who are writing, debating, and advancing the profession. Members have access to a wealth of content enabling them to better understand the past and plan for a stronger future. As we celebrate our Independence on July 4th, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our members for their commitment to the Naval Institute and for keeping your membership current. One great way to access Proceedings is with our mobile App. You can find it at Apple’s App Store or Google Play.
Conference Center Update
If there was no other measure of enthusiasm for the new Conference Center, we would know we had a winner by the groundswell of members choosing to be permanently linked to the project by sponsoring auditorium chairs and “bricks” on the donor-recognition wall. There’s real excitement about the opportunity to memorialize a shipmate, family member, friend, or oneself in such a special setting. Stake your claim at campaign.usni.org or by contacting the Naval Institute Foundation at [email protected] or calling (410) 295-1054.
CNO Naval History Essay Contest Recognition Event
As this issue went to press, we were busily completing the judging of the 2019 CNO Naval History Essay Contest. More than 140 entries were submitted this year—a very healthy competitive field. The winners will be recognized by Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson at the National Museum of the Navy on the Washington Navy Yard on 17 July at 5:00 pm.
