In Tarnished: Toxic Leadership in the U.S. Military, author George E. Reed comprehensively and thoughtfully attacks a type of leader plaguing the military hierarchy: narcissistic bullies who continue to rise in power, position, and rank, despite showing little concern for those they lead or the long-term health and viability of the organizations that allow them to serve. A former Army officer and leadership director at the U.S. Army War College, Reed offers a wide range of perspectives and definitions grounded in the behavioral sciences, which allows the reader to gain a clearer understanding of this disease and its organizational impact.
