The Joint Information Environment (JIE) provides a consolidated defense for the information age but does little for the offensive requirements of information dominance. The JIE will allow the Department of Defense and its services and entities to internally manage and distribute information at multiple levels of classification, accelerating defense operations by increasing security while broadening needed access for individuals, units, and organizations to accomplish their missions. It will likewise control the interface between defense networks and the Internet, permitting secure access to open-source information without exposing defense systems.
Taking the Offensive
To truly achieve information dominance, the military must go beyond a defensive strategy to spread its ideas at the level of the individual service member.
