This month, as we mark the 71st anniversary of the Battle of Midway, the Naval Institute Press is publishing The Battle of Midway: The Naval Institute Guide to the U.S. Navy’s Greatest Victory, edited by Thomas C. Hone. The book presents vibrant, first-person accounts of individuals who fought in June 1942. It focuses on the events that led up to the battle, the battle itself, and its implications for the months and years of war that followed.
Largely composed of excerpts from Naval Institute Press books, Proceedings articles, and selections from Naval Institute oral histories, along with numerous black-and-white photographs and two maps, the book highlights the breadth and depth of the Institute’s historical resources. Dr. Hone, an award-winning author of both books and articles, is a former senior executive in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and former member of the faculty of the Naval War College.
