Ingrid Beach
Ingrid Beach of Washington, DC, has seamlessly continued her late husband's, Captain Edward L. Beach Jr., outstanding tradition of service and generosity to the Naval Institute, including becoming a member in her own right. The Foundation recently received a memorial gift on behalf of Captain Beach, author of the submarine classic Run Silent, Run Deep and, with his father, namesake of the Institute's headquarters, Beach Hall.

Advancing the Next Generation of Naval Leaders

Among new Naval Institute initiatives, the project generating the most buzz by far is our effort to introduce all Sea Service midshipmen and cadets to their professional association by securing sponsors to underwrite gifts of membership in the Institute. This is a winning proposition for the young men and women who will be our nation’s future naval leaders—and for all Naval Institute Members who will benefit from the infusion of youthful participants engaging in our forum. The program has proved so popular that we have widened its scope to include students in service-related professional schools. For example, retired Rear Admiral Nevin P. Carr Jr. recently sponsored memberships for junior officers in the Surface Warfare Officer School class that started this April in Norfolk.

Since there has been so much interest, we will include regular status updates to chart our progress. For more information and to sponsor midshipmen at your alma mater, please visit www.usni.org/gift-membership-landing or contact Heather Lancaster at (410) 295-1048 or [email protected]

Sponsorship to date for the 2013–2014 academic year:

U.S. Naval Academy Companies: 8 of 30 sponsored

U.S. Coast Guard Companies: 2 of 8 sponsored
