‘Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.’ — William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
The holidays—Navy style—are always fêted. While the name of the little lass wearing the USS New York (BB-34) banner is lost to history, there is no doubt about that of her somewhat elderly companion. Santa and the youngster strolled the main deck of the battleship at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in December 1925. Note the number of Christmas trees and the Williamsburg Bridge in the background.
