Naval Aviation's Transition Starts With Why

An oncoming wave of multi-mission platforms means greater interoperability—and a necessary sea-change in traditional modes of thinking.
Naval aviation is executing one of the largest aircraft swap-outs in its history. While it remains important to highlight the steps the community is taking to bring new aircraft to the Fleet, we should also focus on the underlying strategy that set these actions in motion in the first place. Understanding the purpose behind a course of action motivates and inspires an organization’s members, aligning the efforts required to bring a project to life. 1 Despite the fact naval aviation is in the midst of a significant shift forward in capability, Fleet operators may lack the context of the reason this change is occurring.
