Throughout the history of the Marine Corps, those entrusted with the leadership of Marines have held unparalleled responsibility and privilege. It is the officer’s responsibility to not only know the values of our nation and Corps, but why those values are so important for our survival as a people. It is a privilege for officers to lead the first defense of those ideals.
From everyday personal conduct to the ever-trying perils of a constantly evolving battlefield landscape, the Marine officer embodies the intrinsic values of a free and enlightened people. While the philosophic validity of the Constitution has withstood the test of civil war, imperialism, fascism, and communism, its conceptual truths cannot manifest themselves in reality except through the actions of brave and learned individuals. Captains of Marines are ever faithful in the duties of their office, simultaneously understanding the purpose of their actions and how those actions serve their purpose.
