‘The sentinel stars set their watch in the sky.’
Thomas Campbell (1777–1844)
A peregrine falcon keeps a watchful eye from an aft rail on the USS Kitty Hawk’s (CV-63) fantail as an approaching F/A-18 Hornet prepares to touch down. When the photograph was taken on 18 October 1991, the carrier was deployed to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean with Hornet squadrons VFA-97 Warhawks and VFA-27 Royal Maces embarked.
