-Eric Hoffer (1902-83)
That adage about a photograph is quite apt in this instance. There are no words to accompany this haunting image. The year is believed to be 1967, but even that is uncertain. The location could best be determined by the stationing of the ships in the background at that time. From left is perhaps the USS Preble (DLG-15)—the hull number is indistinct—next to the Halsey (DLG-23), the King (DLG-10), and the Macdonough (DLG-8). The who and why are simply unknown and left to the viewer to hear the noise.
