"Some Real Homeland Security"

Bill Brockmeier-I agree with the author that we are not safer since 9/11 and that the Department of Homeland Security is not doing its job. Moving the Coast Guard under the purview of FEMA is not a viable solution. If you remember, the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA attacked the Coast Guard, though it was the only government arm that did its job (meritoriously) during Hurricane Katrina. Forget the politics. Move the Coast Guard under the auspices of the Navy. So what if they lose out on the lavish money being wasted on Homeland Security and FEMA? At least they will be able to do their job!

Colonel John M. Collins, U.S. Army (Retired)-Please count me among those who believe that congressional legislation should, at the very least, designate the U.S. Coast Guard commandant as a full member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff whenever the other six members discuss issues of direct concern to that service.
