The new Commandant of the Coast Guard and the Chief of Naval Operations share their thoughts on the future of the enduring Coast Guard-Navy relationship.
As our nation fights the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), a special friendship continues to flourish-the relationship between the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy. Today, both of our services understand the need to stand together in naval and maritime matters as our nation confronts a broad spectrum of conventional and unconventional military threats as well as a diverse array of non-military challenges to our security. In addition to traditional threats from nation-states, we face entirely new challenges of a "long war" the likes of which we did not imagine even a few years ago. How we deal with these challenges will affect not only America's freedom, peace, and prosperity, but also the freedom, peace, and prosperity of much of the world.
